A note from Pat and Pyllis
Our exploration of food in the Shenandoah Valley is filled with memories. From foraging to butchering, from warm bread to Thai soup, we experienced an incredible richness of flavor and culture. The experience of sharing food creates a powerful bond between people and place. This exhibition celebrates local people and their food stories.
Excerpts from Phyllis and Pat’s overview of the exhibit
You make a dish, you eat it, and it’s gone.
It is a short moment in time.
What is left are food memories,
memories that are powerful
and will nourish you through the years.
-Jacques Pepin
People ask us why—we write and paint about food.
So it happens that when we write and paint
about food we are really writing about relationships
and the hunger for them, and the warmth and
richness of friendships established and the
fine reality of hunger satisfied. -
