On February 20, 2020, Dr. Monica White will speaking at Virginia Tech.

Dr. White is an associate professor of Environmental Justice at the Unviersity of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research engages communities of color and grassroots organizations that are invovled in the development of sustainable community food systems as a strategy to respond to issues of hunger and food inaccessibility.

Dr. White is also the author of Freedom Farmers: Agricultural Resistance and the Black Freedom Movement, which "expands the historical narrative of the black freedom struggle to embrace the work, roles, and contributions of southern black farmers and the organizations they formed."
